Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in the year 2017 and was the top-streamed track within 6 months. In 2017, the single Despacito, which combines reggaeton with pop music has not just brought fresh interest to reggaeton but also sparked interest in Latin music. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs predominantly in Spanish in 2016, compared to just two songs in 2015. In the height of Despacito's chart-topping success in 2017, 19 songs mainly made in Spanish reached at the very top of 100. This number rose to 41 by 2020. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with an English version in the year 2017 and soon after popular artists began working with reggaeton artists. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny to produce MIA (2018), while Madonna worked on Medellin together with Maluma (2019). Certain reggaeton performers expressed their displeasure at the rise of mainstream music in 2020. But a new group, Rauw Alejandro wanted to maintain the development and growth of reggaeton. Rauw Alejandro incorporated elements of other styles and electronic music.
